OUR STORY
My Dhurrie Rugs will transform a room bringing style and personality to contemporary or traditional interiors. As well as being beautiful decorative rugs, they will also work as outside floor coverings, and a simple way to brighten up any picnic, party or festival! Each Dhurrie is hand-woven from 100% cotton by master craftsmen working in Jaipur using ancient hand-loomed weaving techniques. I work directly with the manufacturer so I am also able to create bespoke rugs to almost any design, size and colour. Each rug passes through around 20 different pairs of hands from start to finish. So that’s from the initial dying of the cotton to the actual weaving. It takes 10 days alone to turn the natural raw cotton into a 20-count thread, and then after that long, dedicated process, each day the weavers will weave a few inches until the beautiful dhurrie is complete - a real labour of love!
WHAT ARE DHURRIE RUGS?
The tradition of making Dhurrie rugs in India has been happening for thousands of years, and a skill which would have been passed down from generation to generation. A Dhurrie is a hand-woven cotton rug which are made in several different regions of India. They can be both coarsely and finely woven - but best of all they are reversible.
